Module description
This module is for any clinician who is part of the multi-disciplinary team in primary care, generalist clinicians in secondary care and those interested in primary care policy. This module applies the principles of primary care covered in HPDM127 (which is required before starting this module) to clinical practice. Through use of a video textbook of real clinical cases you will firstly watch real consultations and begin to analyse how the general principles of primary care are applied in practice. Later, you will have the opportunity to take part in ground-breaking technologies watching smart-glasses being used so that you can participate in live consultations and begin analysing clinical practice in real-time.
In addition to covering some of the core principles of primary care, this module may in some circumstances also focus on two clinical themes:
- How psychological conditions are addressed in primary care.
- Chronic conditions (or Non-Communicable Diseases – NCDs). Here we focus on the individual aspects of care such as relationship building, but also (for some participants) on the practicalities of setting up a clinic and quality assuring care of populations of patients.
As well as learning from videos and smart-glasses, you will continue your primary care strengthening project (preferably done in collaboration with another course member). Through this, you will gain valuable experience in leading change in primary care and applying principles of primary care in practice.
