DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

Effective design is critical for the stability and creation of a safe working environment for underground excavations. In this module you will learn about design procedures to provide innovative and safe solutions to geotechnical issues, such as slope stability; underground excavation; the use of support and reinforcement pillars, including both discontinuity and stress-controlled instability. The module will also provide the knowledge and skills required to provide a safe underground mining working environment through sound ventilation practice. You will learn about the use of instrumentation, monitoring, real-time data analysis and analytics to inform and validate appropriate mining method selection, mine design and scheduling. The module will also provide exposure to leading industry mine design software; simulating the mine planning design, scheduling and ventilation processes.
