Module description
This module is designed to develop awareness of self-reflection tools and habits to ensure that apprentices can apply feedback and use it to grow and develop. There will also be an emphasis on understanding time management techniques and tools, how to prioritise activities to achieve the best outcomes. It will be important to emphasise how these techniques can be applied in the workplace and the impact that they may have on efficiency and productivity.
Apprentices will also learn about decision making and the use of emotional intelligence in line with their organisational values and practices. The module will be delivered to ensure that apprentices can consider theories and strategies in the context of their own workplace and adapt and develop their own behaviour where needed. Apprentices will also improve their communication skills by considering the impact of effective communication as a leader, on their impact and influence in relation to the teams they lead and in relation to their senior managers.
Module aims - intentions of the module
- To evaluate learning tools and habits through self-reflection and to critically discuss how this knowledge of self can be used daily in the organisation to develop and grow as a leader.
- To provide an introduction to Emotional Intelligence by learning how to process, handle and respond to feedback. To encourage apprentices to give and receive feedback from the team and managers so they can embrace the feedback through application by producing a personal development plan which is monitored regularly.
- To consider time management tools and how through the use of these tools, deadlines and expectations have been met. Apply the knowledge of being able to escalate when unable to meet the deadlines.
- Explore how to prioritise workload to enable deadlines to be met. Analyse what tasks can be delegated, to whom and why. Demonstrate effective planning of priorities and apply learning in the workplace by not being afraid to admit wrong doings and fix mistakes.
- Understand decision making skills and the reasons why the decision has been made. Commits once the decision has been made. Analyse and evaluate whether the decision was right and why as well as admits wrong doing and fixes the mistakes.
- Understands how to develop effective communication skills and how to use the communication cycle. Uses Emotional Intelligence to remain calm and respectful when under pressure. Explores a range of conflict resolution styles and analyses the impact of the chosen style in different situations. Evaluates the situation and is not afraid to openly and respectfully disagree whilst recognising they are not always right.
