Through the Gift it Reuse it (GiRi) scheme, students can donate their unwanted household items to be used by new students arriving at the University.
Students simply donate items they no longer need (such as kitchenware and small appliances) at designated points on the Streatham campus to be sorted, cleaned and PAT-tested. The items are then made available to new students at 'Free Shops' in various locations during the new arrivals periods.
The scheme encourages a circular economy between students, reduces waste and is particularly helpful when students are moving out of university accommodation at the end of their first year.
Moving In - Get Free Items
It can be difficult to know what to bring when you first arrive at university. Save money and packing space by using the Gift it, Reuse it scheme. Things that could be available to you for free, include:
- Kitchen items: Plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, kitchen utensils, Tupperware, pots, pans and woks
- Small electricals: Kettles, toasters, sandwich makers, air fryers, rice cookers, blenders and coffee machines.
- Clothes hangers and study bedroom essentials (notebooks, rugs etc)
All items have been checked (including PAT testing) to make sure they are clean and in good working order. Things are available on a first-come-first-serve basis and are entirely made up of things that students donated before they left, so we’re not able to order additional items.
And don’t forget, when it’s time for you to move out, you can donate your unwanted items to Gift it, Reuse it, to be given to a new student and help reduce waste.
