MRC Centre for Medical Mycology

Our vision

Our vision and objectives

Our overarching scientific mission is to deliver world-leading research that will substantially advance our understanding of fungal pathogenesis, host immunity and disease phenotypes, thereby enabling the generation and utilisation of skills and knowledge that will improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of fungal diseases in the future.

About the Centre

The Medical Research Council Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM) at the University of Exeter is an internationally recognised world-leading centre of excellence in this field.

The MRC CMM focuses on performing cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and on training the next generation of scientists to increase research capacity in this neglected field in the UK. Despite their huge burden and high rates of death, fungal infections remain understudied compared with other infectious diseases. The MRC CMM complements and enhances Exeter’s existing strengths in living systems, life sciences and medicine, placing Exeter at the forefront of fungal research at a critical time.
